Yukimi Nagano lets her voice reign on Little Dragon's latest 'Drifting Out EP'
The EP includes 2 remixes from Kelsey Lu plus Yo-Yo Ma & Jakob Koranyi
Little Dragon makes more noise before the end of the year with ‘Drifting Out EP’, which follows their 2020 album ‘New Me, Same Us’ which was pursued by a remix EP with contributions from Ela Minus, Octo Octa, Midland, Andrés, Lil Silva, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Poté and FKJ.
Leading the new EP with her unambiguous vocals, Yukimi Nagano quickly brings us back to memories of their early breakthrough single ‘Twice’ from 2009, with the original of ‘Drifting Out’. Her voice is majestically carried through by a stunning acoustic piano that builds a comfortable ungrounding for the listener. Like most of their music, ‘Drifting Out’ stands firmly by the band’s mantra for the moment, “I think most people can relate to the feeling of having their head in the clouds and wishing to be more grounded… we are happy to let it go and share it finally!”
Track two on the EP is a remix by classically trained singer and multidisciplinary artist Kelsey Lu, who layers in strings and a full-throttle groove, that let’s Nagano’s pitched-down vocals float on top. Eerie vibes perfectly annunciate themselves through swirling reverb giving it that abstract lift.
Grammy-winning artists Yo-Yo Ma and Swedish musician Jakob Koranyi, who are both professional cellists, round up the EP with a collaborative remix where their strings come together in a dramatic duet, that again, is passionately superseded by Nagano’s high-flying vocals.
