Pyra transcends typical d'n'b soundscapes in ‘burning man’
“Drum'n'bass has always been my favourite electronic genre,” says the dystopian pop pioneer
Pyra pays homage to and experiments with the rhythmic and bass-heavy sounds of drum'n'bass in 'burning man' — the second single off her upcoming album.
Released on 26 May via her own label XYREN, the Bangkok-raised, London-based artist explains how she got acquainted with the genre and how it serendipitously led to this new release.
“Drum'n'bass has always been my favourite electronic genre. I've been to all the few d'n'b nights in dingy clubs across Bangkok as a rave kid and now I'm living in London where it all started, so I think it finally makes sense for me to release an alt-d'n'b track.
'burning man' highlights Pyra’s dystopian pop spirit intertwined with UK liquid drum'n'bass beats and light, warbling synths. Equally as captivating are the lyrics that paint a vivid picture of a world where freedom flourishes and dreams take flight, symbolizing resilience, personal transformation and the relentless pursuit of self-discovery.

Not wanting to limit herself to one specific sound, Pyra explains that the main feature of dystopian pop lies in its lyrics — “It's not the sonic that's holding things together, but rather the message of the now dystopian world we live in.”
