Police raid at Indian club leads to cancellation of venue’s license

On January 28, Casa Danza nightclub in the Indian city of Gurugram got raided by the Haryana Police.

“We had received many complaints against the club for late-night parties, selling drugs and giving access to drug peddlers,” Preet Pal Sangwan, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime), said.

The raid was reported to have taken place around 2 am on Saturday, January 28, and lasted 12 hours.

On that night, police were able to seize a number of drugs including heroin, cocaine, charas, marijuana and MDMA from the premises.

Blood samples were also taken from as many as 288 guests for forensic analysis.

Back in August 2022, Casa Danza was also the subject of distressing news involving an incident where its bouncers harassed and beat up several of its guests.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the club’s three owners and three managers. A FIR refers to a written document prepared by police in India when they receive information about the commission of a cognisable offence.

According to India Code, a cognisable offence means “an offence for which a police officer may, in accordance with the First Schedule or under any other law for the time being in force, arrest without warrant.”

The police then wrote to the Excise and Taxation Department of Haryana, requesting for the club’s licence to be revoked. Days later, authorities agreed to its revocation.
