Mauritius-based electrocaïne celebrates 100th sessïons podcast with LeftO

For over the last decade, electrocaïne has grown into an eclectic and infinite platform for art and music, running immersive visual and projection installations such as 360 sound and visual art concepts, while sessïons is their streaming podcast platform that engages with some of the most eccentrically appealing musicians around today.

Founded by Avneesh Bacha in Singapore’s underground scene, electrocaïne was sought-after by trailblazing clubs like The Velvet Underground by Zouk and kyō (now closed) to supply visuals for their nights. Avneesh, who acts as the business’ CEO, quickly grew his ideas into a collective that eventually befriended artists and DJs they worked with, leading to the launch of sessïons in 2010. Asia as a region has always been a highly relevant aspect of Avneesh's career as a DJ and a creative agency, as he explains, "the region (Asia) has been an important place of nourishment for music and culture. The creative competition on the scene helped me push forward and constantly want to create."

With support from event promoters and art patrons, and during a time when streaming was not as widely common as it is today, the podcast relied heavily on downloads and gained a cult following on iTunes — 100+ hours of music and 120k+ downloads.

With no genre boundaries, Avneesh and his team have always maintained a mission to introduce new sounds, artists, and ideas — they’ve always been about promoting eclectic vibes with absolute humbleness, and his background as a touring DJ adds immense focus and value to the cause. It’s certainly not an easy task to please 4/4 music purist subscribers, but their audience seems to have widened, with curious listeners encouraging more diversity and fresh sounds. Now operating from Mauritius, electrocaïne has been collaborating with MAMA JAZ Festival since 2018 for a jazz-focused series called Nepetalakton, where creative impulses and artistic freedom can thrive. They’ve also been tasked to produce artistic splendours at prominent festivals in Asia such as Wonderfruit in Thailand and the boutique event Fox in the Box by Rainbow Disco Club in Sapporo, Japan, as well as Rainbow Disco Club's anniversary at the acclaimed Potato Head in Bali.

The records are carefully hand-picked to age well, with timelessness in mind. "We do something quite different, and it's so gratifying to know that we can keep on growing as people yearn for more obscurities and depth in music. With no genre boundaries since day 01, LeFtO is the perfect match to hit our 100th episode! One who can resume the past and set the path for the upcoming sessions."

Episode 100 of sessïons is out today featuring Brussels-based artist LeftO, have a listen below.
