'Bunga Elektronika Vol. 4' offers punk techno and ethereal wonder

Jakarta-based label Dead Pepaya have released ‘Bunga Elektronika Vol. 4’; the latest double-sided EP in their series spotlighting Indonesian talent.

For this edition, they present VT-00 and Magis, two of Indonesia’s rising stars very much in their own lane.

Since the series began in 2021, Dead Pepaya has showcased a wide spectrum of sounds and styles. This latest project continues that tradition, offering an oftentimes bizarre yet exciting listen with two tracks that juxtapose seamlessly.

‘Inferno’ by VT-00 is a stomping, punk-inspired techno track that incorporates samples that sound like they’re from that famous scene in ‘Psycho.’ On the other hand, ‘The Land That You Promise’ by Magis provides a more atmospheric and ethereal experience.

Although Magis’ track is the more ambitious and intricate listen, there’s something boldly unique about VT-00’s contribution. It’s raw punk energy with strange incomprehensible lyrics being thrown in the listener's face throughout, and the minimalism of the track combined with the punchy and experimental elements make for a bold listen. Its dark and moody setting is not only new for Dead Pepaya but for VT-00 as well and is well worth a listen.
