Wherever in the Wild Wasteland unites neo-city nomads from around the globe

Beijing electronic music imprint known as Nomad City Records (NCR) has grown in leaps and bounds since its humble inception. Founded by the experimental and boundary-pushing Yider alongside the ever-impressive Amber Kuo, who we have previously covered here and here, NCR exists outside the narrow scope of traditional labels. Aside from releasing world music, the founding principles also included the ideas of being a meeting space for imaginations, a home for cherished stories and championing diversity in cultures, genres and languages in their releases.

Today NMC has delivered their vision in full circle with the release of the creative project titled 'Wherever in the Wild Wasteland'. Arranged and produced by label co-founder Yider, the concept was to create a nomadic production that channels the rhythm of freedom by uniting artists to freely participate in the project from around the globe. A simple 4/4 beat was provided, which travelled through the digital landscape from contributor to contributor. Eleven artists record their own contributions over the beat in an alternating arrangement. In order of appearance these artists are: Yider, Didgi-Taal, Dillon Baiocchi, Amber Kuo, No Cosmos, Gingee, Unur, Asr, João Mansur, Mindy Meng Wang, & Christian Muela. The featured instruments include a Tsuur, Morin khuur, Tuvan throat singing, Didgeridoo, Kitchi-Gbo, Slot drum, Clarinet, Vocals, Trumpet, Kulintang, Mongol tobshuur, Keys, Acoustic guitar, OP-1 and Guzheng.

The accompanying visuals travel across the globe from the scenic views of Inner Mongolia, to the Netherlands skyscapes, the streets of Beijing and on to Quebec, Los Angeles, Sobradinho, Melbourne and Italy, with each artist dialling in their appearance from their native land. Yider went to work blending layer upon layer of vocals and instruments into the final mix to deliver an experience that is unique and at the same time truly nomadic. One nation under a groove.
