Totoro takes high fashion through a collaboration with LOEWE
The Spanish fashion brand has just cast its cutest model ever
Spanish fashion brand LOEWE has announced an exciting collaboration with Japan’s favorite anime character: Totoro. Designer Jonathan Anderson's latest collection for the Spanish fashion house pays homage to the cult classic My Neighbor Totoro.
The luxury brand announced the unexpected collaboration via Instagram, and from what we can see from perusing the Internet, the collection will feature a series of forest sprites with plenty of the film's beloved characters printed across ready-to-wear pieces and accessories.
What to expect are cotton t-shirts, hoodies and leather biker jackets that bear cute Ghibli-inspired details. Also featured are leather bags, footwear and accessories that depict stunning scenes from the movies as well as characters like the blue Chuu-Totoro, the white Chibi-Totoro, the Susuwatari, and, of course, Totoro. The collection is finished off with luxury leather accessories like calfskin satchels, wallets, bucket bags, and Loewe's signature Puzzle style bearing more characters from the film.
“There is a natural longing for heartwarming feelings right now,” said Anderson in a statement of the collaboration. “When I think of a movie that affords me that kind of solace, speaking just as directly to a child as it does to an adult, that movie is My Neighbor Totoro.”
Studio Ghibli has been making headlines all year as the world hunkers down, riding out the pandemic unit a vaccine becomes widely available. With people at home and spending more time than ever on Netflix, there couldn’t have been a better time for Studio Ghibli’s back catalog to land on the streaming platform in countries as far as the US. Looks like Jonathan Anderson was amongst those that were moved by the films this year.
