TOKiMONSTA embraces Asian Judo culture in her new single 'One Day'
The song features new female talents Bibi Bourelly and Jean Deaux
Ever since Grammy-nominated Korean/American DJ and producer TOKiMONSTA announced her upcoming album, 'Oasis Nocturno' will drop on March 20, she has been keeping herself busy drip-feeding different tracks from the album. Last month she released the trippy-trappy first single 'Fried For The night' with Earthgang, and now TOKiMONSTA is back with the second single 'One Day' – carrying a message of female empowerment, while keeping it Asian with stunning visuals and Judo choreography.
Featuring German singer and songwriter Bibi Bourelly and Chicago singer and rapper Jean Deaux, 'One Day' encourages women to overcome hardship and be bold in the face of self-doubt. “Buried deep inside us is the will to overcome the most difficult hardships,” according TOKiMONSTA “As women, Bibi, Jean Deaux and I know how strong you have to be to push forward when no one believes in you. ‘One Day’ is dedicated to every person of every creed feeling life’s hardships, but not losing themselves to it. Our drive and our determination will guide us to the faint light at the end of the tunnel.” Listen to the song below:
TOKiMONSTA’s visuals in the 'One Day' video embrace Asian culture in her usual artistic, futuristic way. The video was filmed in the Tenri judo dojo in Los Angeles. The symbolism of Sakura, Chinese brush painting, samurai knife and especially Judo - the Japanese martial art that symbolizes strength and grace – blend well with a touch of the surreal space outside the windows and the choreographed judo moves.
Despite battling a rare illness since 2015, TOKiMONSTA was nominated for the Grammy's Electronic Album Of The Year Award in 2019 with her album 'Lune Rouge' – making her the first woman or Asian-American producer ever nominated for the award. Currently, she's preparing for her forthcoming album 'Oasis Nocturno'. 25-year old German Bibi Bourelly is the songwriter behind several hit songs from well-known singers like Rihanna's ‘Bitch Better Have My Money’ and Demi Lovato's ‘Anyone’. She debuted in late 2018 with her first single ‘Writer's song’. Chicago rapper Jean Deaux has made noise in different genres as she is also an accomplished musician and filmmaker.
'One Day' by TOKiMONSTA feat. Bibi Bourelly and Jean Deaux is out on February 21. Listen to it here.
