Strange Weather’s Dunia takes over RASA & HQ with 2 nights of experimental programming

Strange Weather presents Dunia, a two-night programme of experimental music and performance taking place on April 4 and 10.

Spanning over 16 hours, the event brings together artists from Southeast Asia, East Asia, and Europe across live sets, movement, discussions, and club formats.

The main night on April 4 features a full takeover of RASA, completely remodelling the space with two stages, a lounge and dining area, plus a massage parlour.

Things begin at 6:30pm with a “kenduri” (traditional communal feast) curated by Singapore-based Chef Epi, featuring regional Malay dishes. This is followed by a panel discussion led by Hidzir Junaini with Indonesian artists Aldo Ahmad aka Sipaningkah and Aditya Permana with the theme Other Centres: Sound, Lineage and the Making of Scenes in Southeast Asia.

Movement works by Kansh, Josh Tirados, and Sharyfairy (from Singapore Butoh Collective) will take place throughout the night.

Across two stages, the music programme moves between live performance and club-oriented sets, exploring different approaches to experimental sound.

At the DUNIA Stage (Hall), the night opens with a "joget pembuka" (opening dance) by Kansh. This is followed by live and DJ sets, including subplot systems and a live performance by Syafiq Halid with percussionists Nazri Johar and Khairi Kep.

The stage then shifts into club sets from Singapore artists Charmicide and S.R.819 (both of subplot systems), alongside YETPET, running into the early hours.

Inside at the AKHIRAT Stage (Floor), the focus begins with live performances.

Sipaningkah combines Minangkabau musical traditions with self-built instruments and improvisation, performing alongside Filipino butoh dancer Josh Tirados. Sayaka Botanic from Japan follows with a set blending violin, tape and electronics, shaped by industrial and avant-garde influences, accompanied by movement from Sharyfairy.

BAUR, the project of Aditya Permana, presents a dense, tape-based collage of samples and rhythms. The stage then transitions into DJ sets from A’alely and Aditya Permana, ending with a back-to-back set alongside Strange Weather Soundsystem.

On April 10, the event takes over two floors of Headquarters (HQ), leaning further into late-night dance music.

Germany's Tolouse Low Trax anchors the night with stripped-back, looping rhythms and minimalist structures shaped by his long-running work in experimental electronic music.

He is joined by NAH, whose sets move between noise, industrial, and hip hop-informed intensity, alongside Strange Weather residents, who round out the night with off-centre club selections.
