Spin Sum brings back Viken Arman’s unique fusion of sounds to Hong Kong

Viken Arman is considered to have a steady reputation in Asia, which can be seen by his constant returns to the region (those going to Wonderfruit this year, make sure not to miss his live set at the Polygon Stage!). His unique fusion of timeless and modern sounds crafted from a mosaic of samples, modular grooves, and acoustic compositions reflect an impeccable blend of jazz, house, minimal, hip hop, and world music.

Drawing inspiration from the classical melodies of Eric Satie and Keith Jarrett to the contemporary beats of J. Dilla, Matthew Herbert, Ricardo Villalobos, and Four Tet.., Viken Arman's artistry is a product of diverse influences.

With an innate ability to deconstruct and reimagine these influences results in an original, genre-defying sound, Viken has scored slots at renowned venues and festivals worldwide, performing alongside Acid Pauli, The Lebanese Philharmonic Orchestra, Tigran Hamasyan, jazz legend Michel Portal, and saxophonist Guillaume Perret.

Having honed his skills at the iconic Rex Club in Paris, Viken also established the collective Minimal Trip that's been instrumental in introducing budding international talents to the city via debut performances.

His label, Denature Records, has signed over 20 artists, including renowned names like Stavroz, Acid Pauli, Nicola Cruz, and dOP. Furthermore, his internationally acclaimed SOUQ Festival has united thousands of music enthusiasts annually in Paris and has since expanded to Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas.

In addition to being an influential figure in the global music landscape, Viken also maintains a deep connection to his roots, actively investing in the cultural and artistic scene of his home country, Armenia. In 2016, he co-founded an Independent Modern Art Museum in Yerevan which hosts exhibitions and concerts by both local and international artists.

This month, the French musician heads to Hong Kong via invitation of local party pundits Spin Sum for a second time.

Taking place at the open-air Vibes bar at The Mira Hotel on Saturday, November 11, Viken Arman is set to unleash three hours of innovative sounds, with warm-up sessions by Willer, DJ El Toro and Sami V at the lush outdoor space.
