Fred again.. & Brian Eno team up for new LP titled ‘Secret Life’ via Text Records

Fred again.. and Four Tet are adding another name to their growing list of collaborations; none other than legendary Brian Eno.

The collaborative album titled ‘Secret Life’ is set to be released under Four Tet’s Text Records this Friday. It will be Fred again..’s fourth studio album since last year’s ‘Actual Life 3 (January 1 – September 22, 2022)’. As for Eno, his previous release was his 22nd solo studio album, ‘FOREVERANDEVERNOMORE’, which showcased his vocals for the first time since 2005.

The two artists actually go way back; ambient maestro Eno was neighbours with Fred again.. and his family in London.

Mentioned by Four Tet as “the most beautiful album of 2023”, the announcement of the release came in the form of a tweet by the producer himself, who also teased the possible artwork for the album.

Real name Frederick John Philip Gibson, Fred again.. is known for his explorative take on music production just as Brian Eno was in the 1970s and beyond — it’ll be exciting to see what the two conjure up in terms of sonic delights for their upcoming album.

The two previously worked together for Eno and Karl Hyde’s (of Underworld fame) albums ‘Someday World’ and ‘High Life’ where Fred again.. was given writing credits.

Eno himself has gushed about Fred again..’s musicality and productional skills, mentioning “[His pieces] are very non-linear; he doesn’t clean everything off, so in every piece of recording, there’s a sort of context that comes with it as well. The sound has a history built into it,” in an interview with Zane Lowe last year.

The legendary composer admits to having a two-way relationship and also learning a lot from his mentee, primarily about new ideas in making music; though it did take him quite a while to understand Fred again..’s more contemporary methods.
