A recap of ryota's Asia-Australia tour in photos
Snaps from Sydney, Hong Kong, Seoul, Kuala Lumpur & Bali plus some straight from his phone
Earlier this year, ryota moved through two continents for a run of shows that stretched across February, March, and April.
Osaka-based and co-founder of FULLHOUSE, ryota has spent years helping shape what underground club culture looks and sounds like in Japan. His DJing moves through UK garage, bass, and breakbeats, but it's the kind of set where you stop thinking about genre pretty quickly.
The collection of photos above pulls from two places: shots straight from the cities of Sydney, Hong Kong, Seoul, Kuala Lumpur, and Bali, plus frames taken directly from his own phone. These more intimate and personal images hold their own next to the performance photos; a perfect complement to the laser-lit crowd shots.
When performing, the atmosphere is pretty obvious. Colourful lights cutting through smoky dancefloors, crowds pressed up against the decks, hands in the air, some shots of backstage buddies…for those who weren't there, this would be the best way to relive the nights.

Singapore and Hong Kong came with something extra: back-to-back sets with Yung Singh.
If you know Yung Singh, you already know why that pairing works. His sound pulls from similar genres with ryota, but also boasts a Punjabi influence in a way that feels completely natural, and his rise over the past couple of years has been hard to ignore.
