Yung Singh's EKTA label launches with debut single 'NUG46'
The producer blends a hypnotic tabla line with crisp jungle breaks & coastal field recordings, previewing his forthcoming EP ‘Bloom’
Yung Singh has released 'NUG46', the debut single from his newly launched imprint EKTA.
The track is the first preview of his forthcoming three-track EP, 'Bloom', due in June.
'NUG46' took shape during a road trip to Whangārei Heads in New Zealand, with the title lifted directly from the registration plate of the vehicle.
Singh recorded field recordings from the remote beach location and layered them with a hypnotic tabla line, pulling from Indian classical music while holding the structural precision of high-fidelity jungle.
The breaks hit hard and clean while the tabla breathes underneath, giving the track a spacious, almost drifting feel despite its technical precision. It’s a somewhat unusual combination that works precisely because Singh doesn't force it, letting the two sounds find their own balance.

EKTA, which translates from Panjabi as "unity" or "oneness", is positioned as a space for music that sits across folk traditions and club framework.
Singh draws from Panjabi folk and classical alongside UK soundsystem and global bass to create a sound that’s distinct yet at the same time timeless.

In his own words: “EKTA as a name really sums up what I love about music and arts in general: unity and oneness. I want the label to be a sonic universe where artists bring their specific heritage into a modern club framework, it's not just a Panjabi project, but a medium for cultural exchange.”
“It's about merging diverse folk traditions to treat these sounds not as relics, but as the future of dance music,” he adds.
The 'Bloom' EP follows with two additional tracks, 'Situationz' and 'Tabla Trouble'.
