Detroit house pioneer Moodymann lands in Jakarta as part of Asia tour

Moodymann is returning to Asia, and landing at Le Cirque on August 24, organised by Raw Vision Collective.

The Detroit house pioneer (real name Kenny Dixon Jr) has been a fixture in Detroit's music scene since the 1980s, when he worked as a hip hop producer under the name Mr. House before turning to house music.

He founded KDJ Records in 1994 and released his debut album 'Silentintroduction' in 1997.

Roland marked the label's 30th anniversary in 2024 with a limited edition SP-404MKII sampler built around KDJ Records sound banks and artwork.

In 2022, Moodymann had to cancel a run of tour stops when a severe car accident left him and another member of his Mahogani Music label injured.

He was also a founding member of 3 Chairs, the Detroit supergroup with Theo Parrish, Rick Wilhite and Marcellus Pittman, which played what it billed as its last ever show together in Detroit last May, after nearly three decades performing as a group.

Moodymann is also on the line-up of Potato Head Bali's Sun Down Circle on Friday, August 21. Following the next day is his debut in Singapore, headlining the launch of Taman RASA.

For the Jakarta date, expect a special hybrid set that moves fluidly between deep, soulful grooves and more energetic turns into boogie, disco, and dancefloor-driven selections, exploring the full breadth of his sound, from introspective moments to peak-time movement.
