Mogwaa & Jesse You team up for split EP on Walls And Pals
The two artists b2b on ‘SPLIT001 (WP004)’, bringing electro, acid, progressive and much more, all executed masterfully
Korean label Walls And Pals has unveiled a new split EP from label founders Mogwaa and Jesse You, titled ‘SPLIT001(WP004)’.
Mogwaa takes the reins on the A side, offering a minimalistic take on electro-progressive. Meanwhile, Jesse You dominates the B side with raw, high-energy acid bangers.
It seems like a match made in heaven with the two styles harmoniously contrasting one another. Mogwaa glides over thoughtful progressive electro, with rich elements with seamless, ever-evolving layers. Jesse You opts for a more beefy approach, with 90s-inspired production and arcade machine-esque synths being in focus.
It was tough to pick just one, as each of the four tracks here lends something visceral and exciting for the listener and we firmly believe each track deserves its own spotlight.
That being said, our pick is Jesse You’s ‘Orbis’. The retro elements tie in so smoothly, and it’s a sound we’ve yet to hear from Jesse. To play around with these sounds and not fall into the cheesy, overly cliché sound is a feat in itself, and the track is executed so masterfully.

Mixmag Asia caught up with Mogwaa about the reasoning behind the project, who said, “As I DJ more, I care more about the dancefloor when I make electronic music. And this is the latest version of me caring about the dancefloor.”

Jesse You added, “It was just very natural as how we always decide the next release. I finished working on my solo debut EP, Mogwaa finished his own project 'Translucent', I guess it's time for fun and would like to approach a bit different compared to our formal releases which were more versatile, this release is like, ok summer's coming, let's go straight to the dancefloor now.”
The project is dropping first on vinyl in early July, followed shortly afterwards with a digital release.
