Laidback Luke wins big at the Kung-Fu World Championships in Hong Kong
The Dutch DJ and producer walked away with an incredible 6 medals
Laidback Luke, who is known in the world of jung fu as Lucas van Scheppingen, competed professionally in the Kung-Fu World Championships this past weekend in Hong Kong. The Dutch DJ and producer walked away with an incredible 3 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medal, topping his 2013 tally of 4 gold medals.
There were over 10,000 competitors from around the world taking part in the competition, which ran from March 17th - 19th, and he participated in three tai chi sections and three kung fu sections including Straight-Sword, Fan and Bo-Staff. He competed as part of the Hong Ying International Pro-Team, supported by his coach Sifu Mark, who all together took home 20 gold medals collectively.
While this may come a huge surprise to the many that only know him as chart-topping producer and explosive mainstage DJ, the Filippino national has been humbly sidelining martial arts for many years and his recent wins are not only clear demonstration of his commitment to the discipline but also his commitment to health and fitness while balancing it all with a hectic world touring schedule and also his time in the studio.
