The headliners for the event are Justice and Peggy Gou, though netizens seem underwhelmed by the choice of the latter

Hypefest announces line-up for debut event in Hong Kong

Hypebeast is bringing Hypefest to Hong Kong for the first time on November 9-10, 2024, at the Central Harbourfront Event Space.

Building on its successes in Brooklyn, Qinhuangdao, and Hangzhou, Hypefest Hong Kong 2024 aims to celebrate of creativity and cutting-edge trends with a distinctly Asian flair.

This two-day cultural event unites fashion, art, music, and food, featuring over 20 global and local brands.

The music programming is packed with both international and regional talents. Day one features Peggy Gou as the headliner, with Thai rapper MILLI, South Korean r’n’b artist DEAN and others on the line-up.

For day two, there’s Grammy-winning French electronic duo Justice, joined by Japanese hip-hop queen Awich, Hong Kong punk-electro crew, NYPD and more.

Despite being a global heavyweight in the realm of electronic music, Peggy Gou's headliner announcement dor Day 1 of Hypefest Hong Kong doesn’t seem to exactly thrill netizens.

Commenters on Instagram seem largely unimpressed, with some calling her "extremely overrated". One user bluntly added, "She’s literally so boring. Industry plant".

Some expressed frustration over the consistent hype surrounding her, with one comment reading, "Y'all gas her too much. Very average".

The general sentiment in the comments of the post reflects how many seem underwhelmed by her selection as a headliner.

Last week, Gou dropped two new remixes from her album ‘I Hear You’ with Spray reworking ‘1+1=11’ and Mogwaa remixing her hit ‘Lobster Telephone’.

Mogwaa's track ‘Arctica’ was also the first single from ‘Gudu & Friends Vol. 2’ released in May.

In more recent news, a Boiler Room event in Seoul on July 27, where Gou was set to headline, was shut down due to overcrowding.

Japanese live artist Soichi Terada, who was also on the line-up, explained: "I understood that due to too many people eagerly looking forward to Peggy Gou, nobody could move, so they had to abort the show before Peggy Gou or I could perform."
