HADIID expresses the contrasting moods of dawn & dusk in latest EP

electrocaïne’s Y-Series is back at what it does best — showcasing eclectic, left-field electronic music from across the globe. This time, the newest addition to the Mauritius-based creative and music collective comes from Borneo-based DJ-slash-producer, HADIID.

Titled ‘Diniari/Senja’, HADIID’s EP was released on January 27. Full of slow-burn organic-sounding synth progressions, the two original tracks ‘Diniari’ (meaning ‘dawn’ in Malay) and ‘Senja’ (Malay for ‘dusk’) resound the surprisingly subtle difference in the mood of both moments.

Made up of the same core elements, the two compositions act like two sides of a coin; contrast yet part of a whole. Contrasting moods are expressed, but so very elegantly.

‘Diniari’ launches with the build-up of bright synths layering on top of one another, leading up to a twisted, robotic harmony. ‘Senja’ then takes advantage of the same synth layer and switches up the rhythm, transforming into a darker, more aggressive-sounding composition.

Closing out the EP is a remix by Mauritian producer, Mutecell, who ups the ante of ‘Senja’ with a static yet spellbinding arrangement that transports you to Berlin’s dark warehouses.

HADIID describes his signature sound as “understated hypnotic Asian dance music”. Relentlessly showcasing a diverse array of sounds, he’s considered a frontrunner in pushing the evolution of his hometown’s electronic music scene.

Part of the Malaysia-based NWHR collective, HADIID aims to educate and support budding musicians and producers in stepping out of the norm and creating off-kilter, club-ready cuts.
