Premiere: Gonno delivers euphoric breaks on Butter Sessions’ 15-year anniversary compilation
The Japanese don’s low-end pressure & glowing synth work push ‘Prop-alttune7’ straight into bliss
Gonno features on Melbourne/Naarm label Butter Sessions’ 15-year anniversary compilation, with ‘Prop-alttune7’ capturing the producer’s sound and sensibility perfectly.
The three-disc project, out February 13, spans 20 tracks from leading artists across the globe, including Sleep D, Jennifer Loveless, Guy Contact, Kate Miller, MAYURASHKA, OK EG, Sunju Hargun, Yuzo Iwata and more.
While the compilation impresses throughout, Gonno’s contribution caught our ear immediately. Not only is this his first release in nearly a year, but with a sound that’s constantly evolving, you never quite know what you’re going to get from the Japanese producer.
Driven by rolling basslines and unmistakable breaks, it’s ‘Prop-alttune7’’s euphoria-laced synth melodies that steal the show. Simple yet effective, they toe the line between calming and propulsive, gradually expanding into a flurry of sound we just can’t get enough of.
It’s a reminder of why Gonno remains one of Asia’s true “if you know, you know” artists, and why we’re always eager to hear what he has in store next.
