GAUNG Gumaung turns Yogyakarta into a city-wide stage for electronic music

GAUNG, the Yogyakarta-based network supporting Indonesia's electronic music scene, is gearing up for GAUNG Gumaung; the final phase of its 2026 festival cycle, running September 7-13.

The cycle began with GAUNG RTFM, a public talks programme held in May, followed by Salon GAUNG, a series of production and audio workshops in June.

GAUNG Gumaung closes the cycle with a week of concerts, listening spaces, exhibitions and pop-up markets, staged across multiple venues in collaboration with local collectives.

The week opens on September 7 with Sedulur Papat Lima Pancer, a hip hop gathering with Jumat Gombrong at Titik Nol Kilometer, featuring acts from across the city in south-central Java.

Tuesday Louder follows on September 8 with a street-level set in the Wijilan neighbourhood, including Melbourne’s Nū and Lord Spikeheart from Kenya.

Midweek brings GAUNG Gong: Funkot All Night Long on September 9, curated with Prontaxan around two decades of the hyper-energetic local genre of funkot.

On September 10, Jogja Noise Bombing stages Noise on the Bus, a moving performance aboard a public bus, while GAUNG Jagat presents an improvisational ensemble conducted by Gema Swaratyagita and Dinar Rizkianti at Gudang Sempu.

Introvert Club: GAUNG, with Post Party Syndroma, takes place on September 11, featuring Opium Hum and Xin Lie. The week closes with Klub Menepi IX, a two-day outdoor camp at Bulaksalak Bamboo Forest that pairs performances with a tree-planting session.

Running throughout the weekdays is GAUNG Diskotek; a public hub at Langgeng Art Foundation combining a record shop, listening room, archive exhibition and DJ sets from Mantrino Records.
