Drunken Kong are already two surging techno EPs deep into the year
The Japanese duo's first release was via Tronic & is followed up by an EP on Terminal M this week
Released via Terminal Records, Drunken Kong have announced their forthcoming 'Dark Moon' EP. The four-track EP is full of the kind of funky grooves, melodic twists and surging techno that the Japan-based duo has become known for, and will be released digitally as well as on vinyl. This is the pairs third release on Monika Kruse’s label, following ‘With The Stars’ in 2018 and ‘Pulse’ in 2020. The German-based label is also home to ANNA, Pig & Dan and more.
The EP follows in the footsteps of their first EP of the year called 'Phoenix' released via Christian Smith’ Tronic imprint last month, which quickly climbed Beatport's Techno chart. Drunken Kong’s debut album ‘The Signs Within’ was also released via Tronic in 2017.
The Japan-based duo continues to showcase their skills via hypnotic techno bangers spread out over both EPs. Listen to the title track from 'Dark Moon' below.
Drunken Kong is the project of D. Singh and DJ Kyoko. The Tokyo-based outfit are regulars at vital Japanese nightspots such as WOMB and Ageha and has an impressive catalogue of techno productions outside of Terminal M, and have also been homed by the likes of Stil Vor Talent, Octopus Recordings and Session Womb to name a few. Their music gets regular support from artists like Adam Beyer, Pan-Pot, Umek and even Deadmau5. Despite being relative newcomers to Japan’s music scene (when you look at how much history Japan’s music scene has), they’ve been widely accepted amongst stalwarts in the scene and their track ‘Step Back’ was even reworked by Ken Ishii last year.
In October of 2020, Drunken Kong streamed a set from the Hill of The Buddha, a 44-foot statue that is surrounded by a man-made rotunda covered in 150,000 lavender plants in Hokkaido, for Mixmag and high In Japan. Watch it here.
Dark Moon EP is out on Thursday, April 8. Buy it here.
