DOTT enlists Sweely & Jay Tripwire for latest EP ‘One Foot Forward’

More Rice Records co-founder DOTT returns with his first solo EP on the label since ‘MR002’.

Enlisting the remixing talents of Sweely and Jay Tripwire aka Mr_Barcode, ‘One Foot Forward’ is a groove-heavy five-tracker that encapsulates his signature minimal sound.

Short but undeniably sweet, the EP is a masterclass in rhythm and personality.

On the A-side, ‘Semitone Revolution’ hypnotises with its rolling bassline and unpredictable percussive patterns, fusing diverse sonic textures into an off-kilter, atmospheric trip. The introduction to it feels straight out of a horror movie, and the unease the track exudes doesn’t let off throughout its seven-minute run time.

‘One Foot Forward leans into tech house but steers clear of the predictable, instead showcasing intricate sound design and an irresistible swing. It’s an odd one for DOTT, but a sound we hope to hear a lot more of moving forward.

Sweely takes the reins on the remix, adding his signature groove while preserving the track’s core character in a subtle but distinct way.

'About Quality Time' is quintessential DOTT—groove-driven, dynamic, and straddling the line between after-hours hypnosis and peak-time euphoria.

Mr_Barcode’s remix takes it in a completely different direction, diving headfirst into trippy, mind-bending territory.

DOTT told us about Mr_Barcode’s unique process, in which he stays awake for 24 hours before entering the studio and works on it until completion, sometimes pushing 50-hour sessions. The result is a warped, hallucinogenic twist on DOTT’s already immersive original.

We spoke with DOTT about working with the collaborators, saying, “It’s really smooth and easy, more than butter. For Sweely, we met each other at Wonderfruit where I played before him, and then we got to know him and his friends. After that, I asked him if he was up for the remix and he accepted right away! As for Mr_Barcode, I’ve always been a fan (as well for all his aliases), but Barcode is my favourite. So, I reached out to Jay Tripwire for this, and he wrapped it up in no time—because, you know, Jay is like a nonstop factory.”
