COLA REN set to release remix EP of acclaimed debut project
Last year’s 'Hailu' gets a new breath of life from remixers across Asia
Back in June last year, COLA REN released her acclaimed debut EP, 'Hailu', and now treats us to round two in a full remix EP featuring a litany of artists, releasing May 31.
The project includes remixes from Salamanda, Juliang, Will Hofbauer, Al Wootton, Murrin, K-LONE, Knopha and Sam Goku.
While the initial EP took listeners through ambient landscapes, seamlessly blending traditional African and Asian instrumentation with contemporary electronic elements and field recordings, this remix compilation offers a different yet equally enthralling experience.
Each of the remixers has done stellar work across the eight tracks, breathing new life into the original compositions in their own unique ways.
There is Salamanda’s similarly ethereal dreamscape, infectious rhythms from Will Hofbauer, psychedelia from Al Wootton, and so much more from every artist, each of which is just as excellent as the last.

It was a toss-up for our standouts between the lush tranquillity of K-LONE’s heartwarming slice of serenity, and Knopha’s weird and wonderful club-ready sizzler.

Knopha’s stands out among the tracklist as it reinvents the sound of Hailu into such a new form, brimming with groove and infectious rhythms, whereas K-LONE’s encapsulates the ethos of the project into such a masterfully serene oasis of calm.
