As the brains behind Insolent Rave Records, he’s on a mission to foster fresh talent and shake up the electronic music landscape even more. Each track he drops is a testament to his dedication and innovative spirit, making waves in the global techno community.

In our exclusive chat with Nico Moreno, he speaks about his creative process, the evolution of industrial techno, balancing life on the road, and what keeps him grounded as an artist. Plus, Nico also shares some advice for up-and-coming producers and teases his plans for the future.

You’ve been a significant player in the industrial techno wave. How do you see the genre evolving in the next few years, and what role do you hope to play in that evolution?

In the coming years, I see industrial techno evolving by incorporating even more diverse influences and various musical genres, while maintaining its characteristic intensity and raw energy. Personally, I hope to continue innovating and pushing the boundaries of the genre, while also playing a mentoring role for the next generation of artists. I want to encourage them to bring their own unique perspectives and further enrich this dynamic scene.

‘Purple Widow’ and ‘Insolent Rave’ are huge hits. Can you walk us through the creative process behind your tracks? What inspires you the most when you're in the studio—what’s your “secret sauce”?

I travel a lot and meet many people. I’m also fortunate to interact with numerous artists and to be curious about what's happening in the world of techno. I pay close attention to my audience as well. All of this allows me to find inspiration!

Speaking of your tracks, how do you come up with those intriguing titles?

It depends; for some, it's simply because of the lyrics, and for others, it's the feeling the track gives me.

You started producing at the age of 20—what advice would you give to producers who are just starting and hope to make a mark in the techno scene?

Believe in it. I made sacrifices to get here, and I also did odd jobs while waiting to live my passion, but I never gave up. No matter what world you belong to, carve out a place for yourself. If you believe in it, you'll struggle, but you'll make it.

Every record tells a story, what record tells yours?

I think my latest album, ‘You Can’t Stop The Movement’, has its answer right in the title. It's my first album, and I took a lot of time to make it, with a lot of love, to offer the best of techno to my audience. I worked with talented artists for the features. So yes, that's my record—it's proof that we should believe in our dreams, that nothing should stop us, and that techno brings people together.

Balancing a hectic touring schedule with personal life can be challenging. How do you maintain your well-being and stay grounded amidst the constant travel and performances?

I already do a lot of sports, make sure to eat well, and I'm learning to take breaks when I get back home. Balance is difficult, but I stay in touch with my loved ones even from a distance. Passion helps to regain energy, but let's be honest, sometimes it's hard to stay on your feet after four shows in a row, haha.

Can you share with us a bit about your Asia tour? Any first-time experiences or unique stories to tell?

My tour in Asia was incredible. I know I'm repeating myself, but when I travel and meet my audience, I'm fortunate to have such a welcoming and electrifying crowd. It's unique to discover a country and its people through a shared passion for techno.

I loved exploring Asia, which I already knew a bit! I had time to relax between shows and get to know Bali a little better.

As the founder of Insolent Rave Records, how do you select the artists you want to support and sign? What qualities do you look for in upcoming talent?

Currently, Insolent Rave Records is getting ready and expanding. We're heading into 2025 with some great things. Regarding the artists I will support, I focus on the human aspect and what the artist passionately offers. If I sense that special something that can resonate with everyone, I'll back them.

As someone deeply involved in the techno community, what are your thoughts on the importance of underground music scenes, and how do they contribute to the overall culture of electronic music?

I think the underground scenes remain the foundation of what techno is. They allow for constant innovation and preserve the authenticity of the genre. They also strengthen the sense of community. Without them, electronic music would lose a great deal of its richness and diversity.

Lastly, what instantly puts a smile on your face?

Many things, like the presence of my friends and family when I come home after a tour, but of course, being in front of my audience and feeling them vibe with me—that's a great dose of dopamine.
