Yu Su’s ‘I Want an Earth’ is an organically ambient call for a better planet

After teasing us with the first single ‘Counterclockwise’, Yu Su releases her ‘I Want an Earth’ EP. The four-tracker came out on July 28 via the UK’s Pinchy & Friends imprint and is said to be a sonic response to the floods in California.

Though noted as the most frequent kind of natural disaster to happen, the flooding in California that happened earlier this year sparked conversations on the real-life consequences of climate change — a concern of Yu Su’s clearly stated in the title of her new EP.

Having had the opportunity to stay in Ojai (a desert town in California), Yu Su channels inspiration from the natural landscape, claiming that the reflections of light, wood burning in the fireplace, and materials that “rhymed with the sounds in the room” gave rise to the enchantingly organic demeanour of her release.

Title track ‘I Want an Earth’ starts off with ambient resonances that lead up to a pad-driven rhythmic melody, ushering listeners into even more dazzling strains of cosmic sound that skitter across the track.

Following is the previously-released ‘Counterclockwise’ — layer upon layer of warm synthplay with an Asiatic mood that echoes throughout an atmospheric background.

‘Manta Y Menta’ is her more upbeat track that tickles our ears and minds with a flutter of aural antics, while showcasing her dub-inflected signature. The more one listens in detail, the more interesting it becomes. Last but not least, ‘Pardon’ brings the release full circle with its positive downtempo and fourth-world ambient air.
