Ye returns to China & flips off Adidas during ‘Vultures 2’ listening party
The rapper's gig in Hainan, which also featured his family on stage, sold out with 42,000 attendees
Kanye West, now known as Ye, held a ‘Vultures 2’ listening party in China on September 15, 2024, which sparked both excitement and controversy.
While his return to China marked his first performance there in 16 years, some questioned why the Chinese government, known for censoring provocative artists, gave him the green light.
Despite his history of provocative statements and run-ins with the law, the concert at Hainan’s Wuyuan River Sports Stadium sold out in minutes, drawing over 42,000 attendees to watch the artist previously known as Kanye West.
According to The New York Times, critics questioned why China allowed Ye to perform while other Western artists, like Justin Bieber and Bon Jovi, were denied entry. Some suggested China’s economic struggles played a role in the approval, with the government hoping to boost tourism and consumer spending.
Still, fans flooded social media with posts about the show and even decorating cars with Ye’s images and symbols referencing his 'Vultures' album.

Midway through his performance, Ye brought his four children on stage to perform ‘Everybody’ with him—a track that samples the Backstreet Boys’ iconic hit.
He also reignited his feud with Adidas, flipping off the brand as the audience chanted “F**k Adidas,” continuing his long-running protest against the company.
