Yaeji’s anticipated ‘With A Hammer’ album is finally here

Emerging last Friday, April 7, Yaeji’s new 13-track album 'With A Hammer' is infused with stories renewed from her childhood that was fuelled with repressed emotions.

There are tracks that leap from pop, techno, jazz, bass and ambient pieces combined with lyrics that resonate with the evolution of the order and chaos of her American and Korean cultures growing up. The album released via XL Recordings finds its way through daily highs and lows as it matches the tempo of both dancefloor sensibilities and the comedown.

Yaeji has teased fans over the past couple of months by releasing a few goodies from the album such as ‘For Granted’ in January, ‘Done (Let’s Get It) in February and ‘Passed Me By’ just a few days prior to her full album drop.

The latest release comes with a music video that features both English and Korean verses as Yaeji addresses her younger self while an older version protects her.

“I think it liberated me to create a weird song because I wasn't locked to any grade from the start and I think 'Passed Me By' is the first time I felt like I had expressed something I couldn't in either Korean or English through sonics, through music,” says Yaeji, speaking to Zane Lowe on his Apple Music show.

In celebration of her first album release, Yaeji is also spotted in Times Square New York via a Spotify ad. She will also be performing at Coachella this weekend — talk about a week of excitement.
