Unreleased Daft Punk mix from 1997 discovered by DJ Ralph Lawson
The 20/20 Vision founder discovered the "mouldy" tape, which was submitted by the French duo to his Kiss FM show, in a storage unit
Ralph Lawson has shared an unreleased Daft Punk mix from 1997, which he restored after discovering it on a "mouldy" cassette tape in a storage unit.
In a video shared via Instagram earlier this month (October 21), the Leeds-based DJ explains that he found the tape while searching through his DAT archive in 2024; the French duo had submitted the tape to Lawson in February 1997 as a guest mix for his Kiss FM show Trans Europe Express.

Lawson uploaded the mix on SoundCloud on October 29, which features the Chicago house, scratching riffs and fizzling groove that came to define the French duo's 'Homework' era.
"The tape was broken and it's taken me all this time to get it sorted out," the 20/20 Vision founder explains, adding that he had discovered it "mouldy and ripped" before Bristol's Great Bear Digitising helped to restore it.

"I was so nervous about it, because I wanted to make sure it wasn't their [BBC Radio 1] Essential Mix, which came out in March '97," he continues, before playing the tape in the video and shouting for victory when he realises that it is, indeed, an original recording.
