Daft Punk’s Interstella 5555 Guitarship submitted as LEGO set idea

A creator under the username WUB has submitted a buildable version of the Guitarship from Daft Punk’s anime Interstella 5555 to LEGO Ideas.

Interstella 5555 was released in 2003 as a visual companion to the duo’s 2001 album 'Discovery'. The 65-minute film, directed by Kazuhisa Takenouchi under the supervision of Leiji Matsumoto, has no dialogue, and each album track soundtracks a portion of the story.

Pilot Shep sets out to rescue The Crescendolls, an alien band made to perform on Earth, aboard the Guitarship, a vessel shaped like a Flying V guitar.

It appears in the videos for ‘Digital Love’, ‘Face To Face’ and ‘Too Long’, which Thomas Bangalter once mentioned was the only true house track on the album.

“I started building my LEGO Guitarship in 2023 and over the years it has evolved into a passion project of mine,” the creator states on Lego’s product ideas submissions site.

He also claims that more than a dozen versions were designed before the final model, which has 686 parts and minifigures of The Crescendolls: Shep, Octave, Arpegius, Stella and Baryl. It measures 56 cm long and 26.5 cm wide, and stands 19 cm tall on a display stand that tilts the ship as if in flight.

“My build features a cockpit which Shep can fit in as well as a small sleeping quarters with a bed for Shep to lay down on like he does in the ‘Digital Love’ music video, he shares.

The submission follows Daft Punk’s LEGO-animated crossover appearances in Pharrell Williams’ Piece by Piece and LEGO Fortnite.

“Hopefully the Guitarship can become the next crossover between the two creative powerhouses that are LEGO and Daft Punk!” the creator writes.
