United We Stream Asia makes its grand China debut this week

Tumultuous times in Asia right now. Countries like Thailand are enjoying their newfound freedom after emerging from lockdown practically virus-free while countries like Vietnam head back into lockdown after one mysterious case spiralled into an outbreak. As such, United We Stream continues on.

It’s a week of firsts for the streaming platform, premiering in both Penang and Shanghai. First up on Thursday is at Narrow Marrow in Penang. See the program below.

On Sunday, August 16 United We Stream Asia will debut in China, landing in Shanghai first. In partnership with Alter, the showcase will stream from three different locations: Fosun Foundation, Kee Gardens and Highline. The line-up will see Cruel Buddhist, Frau Alter. Soundsystem with Yu Yang & Enzo Grasso and RYO behind visuals.

Last week, United We Stream Asia stopped in Kuala Lumpur with a showcase at Pisco Bar before moving onto Barrio, with the latter dedicated to raising awareness surrounding Mayalsia’s “forbidden” LGBTQ community. The stream was a Shagrilla showcase, a much loved LGBTQ collective from Kuala Lumpur. Watch it below.

United We Stream Asia just finished its first round of collections and raised a total of $10,000 to #saveclubcultureasia. It might sound like a good sum, but more is needed in a region where government support has been non-existent and clubs, venues and DJs are struggling to survive the pandemic.

All funds raised go into a fund set up on GoGetFunding and will eventually be returned to the music community in Asia. For an understanding of how the funds raised are being divided, check here.

United We Stream Asia is a partnership between ClubbingTV, ARTE Concert, Clubcommission Berlin, Homeaway Agency and Mixmag Asia, and has committed to uniting the music community’s efforts for recovery.
