TUFF CLUB set to relaunch with major upgrades to sound, lighting & layout

TUFF CLUB, one of Singapore’s most revered spaces under the THUGSHOP banner, is set to relaunch in September 2024 with a new look and upgraded offerings.

After hosting one last event on August 24 under the previous concept, this staple of the local underground scene will unveil several exciting enhancements aimed at enhancing the overall clubbing experience.

“For starters we’re changing up the soundsystem, and that alone already affects the overall experience sonically,” the THUGSHOP team share with Mixmag Asia, speaking about the installation of a new Funktion-One set, which will be encased in its signature cabinets and white axehead drivers.

Renowned in elite clubs like Berghain, Marquee in New York, Amsterdam’s De School and Taipei’s Pawnshop, this upgrade will solidify TUFF CLUB’s status as a global contender in audio quality.

However, the club's overhaul doesn’t stop at sound—their new lighting system will be aimed at amplifying the dark-room atmosphere. “Our new lighting forms a sort of web above clubbers and is more ‘involved’ than previous iterations,” the team teased.

The DJ console and club layout will also undergo a complete redesign, optimising the space for better energy flow.

Additional restrooms, an extra bar and a more refined terrace setup round out the improvements, making the club more comfortable and immersive than ever.

One of the most exciting changes would have to be the revamp of TUFF CLUB’s rooftop terrace. Previously a separate escape from the dancefloor, it will now seamlessly blend with the club’s energy, with plans for patio-specific entertainment to be introduced in the future.

“When TUFF initially was founded, it was never meant to be a permanent club—more a pop-up night. Now that it’s evolved into a staple in the city, it’s only right that we evolve with what our dancers love too,” the team explain regarding the inspiration behind the space’s remodelling.

TUFF CLUB will be throwing a weekend celebration featuring international heavyweights Alfa Romero from Afterlife on September 6 and Berlin’s Curses on September 7. Backed by Thugshop’s resident DJs, this relaunch weekend will set the tone for TUFF CLUB’s exciting new chapter.
