Toru Ikemoto contributes to Japan’s hypnotic techno boom via new EP
‘BEWARE THE BARRENNESS’ is a masterclass in minimal, rolling nuances
Toru Ikemoto has released his latest EP, ‘BEWARE THE BARRENNESS’, complete with remixes from IGLO and MAWARI, out now with Aum Recordings.
The four-track EP is a minimal, rolling techno haven where the intricacies shine through. It’s not overly flashy and holds deep techno at its core with its rich atmospheres and ideas.

‘DON’T PLAY 065’ is as hypnotic of an opening track as you can get. Its minimal elements allow the subtle changes and nuances to take centre stage. The bringing in of a simple hi-hat has such a vast overall effect on the tone and atmosphere of the track, keeping the listener tapped in throughout.
The trippy synthwork is relentless, leaving the listener trance-like throughout its five-minute run time. Though maybe not for everyone, if you’re into subtle, rolling, mature techno, it's highly suggested that you give it a proper listen.

The remixes are equally as impressive, with IGLO and MAWARI showing other elements and styles of techno whilst still retaining the hypnosis the EP leans towards.
Aum Recording was founded back in 2022 by Osaka-based artists Toru Ikemoto, DJ HI-C and TENO, showcasing Japan’s thriving techno scene with each release.
