The Observatory resident Nic Ford releases dystopian film score-esque EP
‘A Lust For Glory’ is an unsettling, ominous but meticulously executed piece of work
Vietnam-based producer and The Observatory resident Nic Ford has released his latest EP, ‘A Lust For Glory’, via his own imprint Shift Coordinate Points.
Ford describes the project as “a continuation of the endless possibilities of phase-shifting” a sonic concept that has long been central to his work with Sơn FM (Siamese Twins Records).
The three-track release leaves listeners wanting more, exploring themes that “reflect industrialisation, human behaviour, and other psychological drivers of the meta-crisis — and where we are headed as a global civilisation”. Ominous, indeed.
‘A Lust For Glory’ is boldly unique compared to most releases we’ve heard this year, with its off-kilter production and eerie, ever-shifting atmosphere.

The project unfolds like the score to a dystopian thriller: tense, hypnotic, and meticulously executed.
The opener introduces a psychedelic unease, with bleeps and bloops weaving through the mix to dizzying effect.

Track two drives the energy forward through live percussion, rhythmic yet still ominous, before the closer ties the narrative together, evoking curiosity and the unknown.
The final moments ascend into something almost euphoric, though the dark feelings still linger.
