Field recordings & raw electronics collide in sonic ritual for ‘Ragom V.A.’

Siamese Twins Records’ ‘Ragom V.A.’ is a heady third instalment in their cassette series, following ‘Vinyan’ and Kāthā.

Out August 1, this nine-track compilation dives deep into nocturnal soundscapes and atmospheric abstraction, offering a listening experience that’s both meditative and transportive.

Drawing its name from the Thai word “Ra-ngom” (ระงม), described as “a swelling, resonant hum, a collective vibration of sound that entrances the senses”, the compilation channels the charged stillness of night, transforming natural textures into vivid, introspective sound worlds.

Contributors like Surabhi Saraf, Kiss Nuka, Gonno, and label co-founder Sunju Hargun channel field recordings, minimalist electronics, and ritualistic textures into layered, slow-burning soundscapes.

Speaking on curating the artists and sound of this release, Sunju mentions: “There wasn’t really a brief. Some of this music had been with us for years, and the newer tracks just aligned perfectly. Everything just made sense together in the end.”

Crafted for cassette, the format adds to the album’s hazy character.

“Cassettes are analogue, and they add a kind of edge and saturation that really suits this type of music,” Sunju explains. “They slow you down, encourage full playthroughs, and connect to a DIY culture that’s always inspired us. The sound of ‘Ragom V.A.’ is rooted in atmosphere and depth, the cassette just felt like the right vessel.”

A sonic journey best experienced slowly, deliberately, and perhaps, as Sunju puts it: “Lying upside down or levitating in your living room.”
