Sabrina spotlights Indonesian techno artists in latest Mixmag Asia Radio offering

For your mix you chose to play only 100% Indonesian artists, why is this?

Indonesia is where I’m from and I wanted to represent where I’m from. I don’t live there anymore, but through the music it still makes me feel part of my second home.

What do you think of the current climate of Indonesia’s scene? Favourite thing/least favourite thing?

Where I lived, in Bali, it is always thriving! Especially with the new(ish) clubs/venues like Vault who had Mark Broom not long ago. Old Man’s (a very popular night out in Bali) had Partiboi69 and Surusinghe. I can’t think of what is my least favourite thing! The rest of Indonesia I’ve yet to explore but have only heard great things!

What are some things people may not know about the local scene?

Keep looking harder for the smaller, local spots. Too many talented people get missed. Just because somewhere isn’t "sold out" doesn’t mean it won’t be good. Koyuki a fellow DJ/artist friend of mine also hosts her own nights at her own club called Meiro, and I’ve found multiple hidden gems there.

Are there any producers and DJs in Indonesia that have recently caught your attention?

DJ Aidaho is smashing it for the girlies that side of the world. DITA is killing it with her production.
STEF and her track 'Dimension 7' is wicked. And also Ecilo—an absolutely iconic producer.

Favourite dance floor in Indonesia (to either play or just to party)?

Might be cheesy, but at the moment Old Man’s in Bali because of the sick line-ups they’ve had recently. Although my mum used to try drag me to Pyramid, Red Ruby and all those other clubs that go on until 11am...or later!

What musical trends are you noticing in Indonesia at the moment? What’s exciting you? Where do you see the scene going?

In my opinion, most of the artists I’ve gotten to know are doing it for the music rather than following trends! What’s exciting to me is all of them lift each other up. No gatekeeping. Pure love for music. I hope it stays this way, or more of the venues are open to putting on a brave line-up.

Any DJs you’d love to go b2b with?

Indonesian artists, I’d love to go B2B or collab with the artists I’ve mentioned above. If you mean in general, dead or alive, it would either be Marcus Intalex/Trevino, Jeff Mills, Nastia or really loving THELMA at the moment!

Where can we hear you playing next?

I’m on SWU.FM radio every second Thursday of the month. My next real big gig is a festival I’ve been going to for years, but I can’t say yet, so keep an eye out!
