Partiboi69 departs from his typical sound in new track 'Playin’'

Partiboi69 has unleashed his latest single, 'Playin’', a tantalising glimpse into his forthcoming EP, 'Call of the Void', slated for release on March 1 with the label Running Back.

The track departs from the hedonistic and in-your-face sound that propelled Partiboi69 to celebrated notoriety. Known for his classics such as 'K On My D+C' and 'Wine Dine 69', the new track 'Playin’' marks a new era for the artist — one exuding maturity and depth while retaining the exhilaration and allure of his beloved discography.

From the outset, 'Playin’' captivates with a burst of euphoric synths, laying the foundation for a journey into a psychedelic and nostalgic soundscape unlike anything we've heard from the Australian icon in a surprisingly serious manner.

The breakdowns feature distorted and eerie spoken words, intertwined with layers of intricate elements that reveal themselves with each subsequent listen, contributing to the track's enigmatic atmosphere and thought-provoking ambience. It takes strong inspiration from classic rave closing tracks, and we’re sure this will be pumped out at 6am slots throughout 2024.

As 'Playin’' sets the tone, it's evident that the rest of the EP follows suit, embracing a more mature perspective. This evolution leaves us eagerly anticipating what may be the next chapter in Partiboi69's illustrious career.

'Playin’' drops today, February 9; get it here.
