RASA & Goethe-Institut Singapore launch cross-cultural series, KONGSI AKKULTURASA

RASA and Goethe-Institut Singapore open a new series of cross-cultural showcases with KONGSI AKKULTURASA, taking place on August 23.

The evening brings together Berlin-based Indonesian artist Ariel William Orah and Singaporean sound artist Mervin Wong in a performance-installation that blends sound, ritual, and collective engagement.

Each edition of the series will pair an artist from Singapore with one from Germany, encouraging collaborations that move across genre and geography.

The event on August 23 marks the first of these exchanges, revisiting past connections between Berlin’s sōydivision and Singapore label Midnight Shift, while extending their shared sonic explorations into new territory.

Ariel William Orah, originally from Bandung, is known for weaving together sound, performance, and socially engaged art. His practice often addresses themes of diaspora, memory, and cultural displacement.

As a co-founder of sōydivision, he has staged projects that merge experimental music with communal and culinary elements, including the long-running Soy & Synth series in Berlin. KONGSI AKKULTURASA forms a special edition of that series, linking live events in Singapore with broadcasts on Berlin’s Refuge Worldwide radio.

Mervin Wong, based in Singapore, moves fluidly between composition, installation, and performance. A classically trained violist, his work focuses on resonance, spatial listening, and immersive environments.

He has scored for theatre and developed sound works for galleries and independent platforms, earning recognition for his ability to shape sonic spaces that invite deep attention.

The evening begins with a multi-sensory installation at 6:45pm, followed by an immersive lecture-performance from 7:30-9:15pm.

Tickets are priced at S$15; purchase here.
