Qilla Records launches new mix series with a sunrise set from Sunju Hargun

Qilla Records has launched a new series of live recordings, focusing on “special DJs on special occasions”, starting with Sunju Hargun.

Captured during his sunrise set at Goa’s Vaayu Kula on December 31, 2024, this live mix captures the raw energy and free-spirited vibe that defined Goa’s golden era of raves.

The Vaayu Family’s New Year’s Eve Gathering, held at the iconic Vaayu Kula, has been a longstanding tradition, now in its twelfth year.

What began as an intimate celebration with just fourty attendees in the early days of Vaayu Village has grown into a community celebration, where roughly 60% of the modern line-ups consist of DJs who have been part of the event since its inception.

Last year’s theme, “Elemental Rituals”, honoured the natural forces that inspire both Vaayu and Prana, while also celebrating the modern-day ritual the gathering has become for so many.

As Vaayu Kula co-founder Jill Ferguson shared with Mixmag Asia, “For so many people from the community, the Vaayu New Year's Gathering has become one of our most favourite rituals, a chance to celebrate and witness the growth of our creative friends as we dance in the sunrise and celebrate another year of growing together and the passage of time. As time has progressed, our small community of creatives has grown and what was once very underground or more of a subculture, has become a bit more mainstream.”

Reflecting on his performance, Sunju shares, “Presenting a recent offering, set in a special space and on an occasion that happens just once a year. Through sunrise, everything and everyone came together to celebrate music, life, and freedom, embodying a spirit deeply embedded in Goa's DNA. The hope was to bring forward a storyline that felt one with the earth—peaks and troughs filled with both the unknown and introspective moments.”
