Priscilla Chan gets groove-heavy release with Sound Metaphors
‘地球大追蹤 (African Dance)’ reimagines the African beat and links it perfectly with Cantopop
Hong Kong-based Cantopop icon Priscilla Chan has a fresh re-release courtesy of Berlin’s Sound Metaphors titled ‘Remix (Thank You - THANKYOU033)’.
Priscilla Chan's illustrious career has solidified her as one of the most successful Cantopop artists of all time, with her track ‘Thousands of Songs’ being regarded as an all-time classic in the genre.
The track ‘地球大追蹤 (African Dance)’ is a testament to globalisation at its finest. Initially a Guinean hit that took over European charts, it opened the door for African music in other markets. The track was later revitalised by Priscilla Chan who breathed new life into the infectious track.
This release also features three additional tracks showcasing Cantonese ballads, which recontextualise Priscilla’s reinterpretation of ‘African Dance’. One of the highlights is her cover of Gamble & Huff's ‘When Will I See You Again’.
While the ballads offer their own charm, the undeniable highlight is ‘地球大追蹤 (African Dance)’. The infectious synths blended with tribal instrumentation, paired with Priscilla’s effortlessly smooth vocals, create a track that irresistibly uplifts listeners and can’t help but bring a smile to our faces.
