Moog acquired by audio equipment giant inMusic
The legendary synth makers will now be owned by the same company as Akai, Alesis, M-Audio and others
Moog has been acquired by the audio equipment company inMusic.
In a “new chapter for Moog”, it will be joining the synthesiser manufacturer’s roster of its already-owned brands which are Akai, Alesis, Denon, M-Audio, Marantz, and Numark.
The news of the sale was announced with a letter from Joe Richardson, President of Moog Music claiming that this move is “devoted to maintaining the sound, quality, and manufacturing philosophy” that the company currently works with.

Richardson adds: “inMusic is able to offer solutions to support the areas that have been ongoing challenges for us as a small manufacturing business. This new partnership will enable us access to inMusic's efficient global distribution and supply chain network while providing inMusic and its affiliated brands with deep expertise in analog synthesis.”
Emphasising that Moog’s “values, mission, and people” will remain “unchanged”, the statement continues to explain that product development will continue to be led by Steve Dunnington, a long-time engineer for Moog as well as a former student of Bob Moog.
One change that is highlighted is the introduction of “innovative hardware and software instruments” which is said to be “on the horizon”.

Moog is known as one of the first companies to create affordable analogue synths and was started by Bob Moog and engineer Bill Hemsath.
This year, Moog is celebrating 70 years of the Model D synthesiser which was the world's first portable synthesiser.
