Monstercat acquires Silk Music, debuts Monstercat Silk with Shingo Nakamura

Canadian born independent label Monstercat announced today a strategic acquisition of Silk Music that will see it deliver greater diversity in music. Stepping away from a strictly EDM sound, Monstercat Silk will release music spanning across progressive house, deep house, trance, chillout and more. Silk is an LA-based label that, since its inception in 2008, has been inspired by the therapeutic power that music has on our lives.

"From everyday listening to special moments that come once in a lifetime, we have your personal soundtrack," the label said. "For those who not only live in the moment but also beyond; in imagination and in aspirations. Your tastes are reflected in the hearts of talented artists who offer emotive and intelligent electronic music. Don’t be surprised if you discover a new musical love in our catalog of visionary new progressive, house, trance, breakbeat, and chillout tracks."

The inaugural release comes from Asia, with Japanese progressive house master Shingo Nakamura returning to Silk with a single called ‘Glow’. The Tokyo-based DJ and producer hails from Ibaraki, Japan, and is known for a progressive house style that blends deep and lyrical sounds with classical piano. 'Glow' is a precursor to his forthcoming album of the same name, out on Monstercat Silk in June 2021.

The artist shares: “Making an album is really meaningful work for me because I'm able to reflect on my life through music. It's not always easy, and it takes time, but I'm so happy to complete this project thanks to the Silk team, who I've worked with for more than a decade. I'm excited for "Glow" to be the first release on Monstercat Silk and reach more listeners than ever before.”

It comes as no surprise that Monstercat Silk turned to Asia for its first release. The label has been making waves in the Far East, with an HQ stationed in Singapore and the recent hiring of an APAC Communication Manager to oversee the region. It's also not the first brand the label has acquired, Silk being the third following the vibrant melodies of Instinct and the hard-hitting drops of Uncage.

Now representing a major stake in the arena of electronic music, the move cements Monstercat as a leader in the independent label space, and expands its impact further across the world.

However next up for Monstercat Silk see the label going around the world, lining up Kaskade, Vintage & Morelli, A.M.R, Arielle Maren and PROFF, among others.
