Mixmag Asia lands a rooftop gig with Calamar Records at Faye in Hong Kong this weekend
Dust off your dancing shoes, we're returning to the dance floor!
We didn’t think we’d be doing this again so soon but we’re hosting a little shindig in Hong Kong this weekend. 26 stories up and above Central we are joining forces with the Calamar Records crew, a Hong Kong-based label pushing Saturdays at Faye this summer, and dusting off the old dance floor. Mixmag Asia marks week three of the eight week series with showcases by Yeti Out and FuFu still to come.
The Calamar Records label are one of the first to try out the newly erected club, which you can think of as the reincarnation of Volar. But while its predecessor was a basement club with a dark aesthetic, Faye takes over the roof where CÉ LE VI once lived and prefers the brighter side of life. What they have in common, besides ownership, are the white horses and a stellar music program — like the one this Saturday night.
Mixmag Asia is set to interrupt Calamar Records' regularly scheduled show with a night dedicated to the sounds that some would say have shaped Hong Kong. Potato Head’s Johnny Hiller gets first credit because we’re thrilled to see what the walking music library will dish out for us this time. Helen Ting will be joining the party with her unique blend of Afro-house, and Mixmag Asia’s own Arun Ramanathan will step into his Hara character to inject the smooth flavours of house onto a very veteran Hong Kong line-up.
Our party, our guestlist. We know how much you need this Hong Kong so shoot us an e-mail at [email protected] and we’ll see what we can do about getting you in.
