LVRA takes on a darker direction for her new single ‘LOOK’

Just under three minutes is all it takes for LVRA to get you hooked on her experimental sound. Her latest single ‘LOOK’ came out via Eastern Margins yesterday, November 10, 2022.

LVRA is Rachel Lu — a 22-year-old Edinburgh-born singer and producer of Chinese descent. She was also the winner of 2021’s Sound of Young Scotland Award, where she was applauded for her celebration of Asian heritage.

‘LOOK’ is a track full of frenzy, echoing the theme of rebelling against anxiety which can be felt in its dark sound and music video imagery. LVRA shines in the shadows as she presents a track filled with her bewitching whispers and exhalations that lead up to a cathartic chorus, symbolic of destroying demons that pull on our insecurities. All these elements are built on top of a dynamic body of work that draws from the raw sounds of industrial, hyperpop and deconstructed club music LVRA’s known to experiment in.

"I wanted to write something to capture the flurry of emotions that I feel when I'm out clubbing. ‘LOOK’ is about the overwhelming anxiety of other people's eyes watching, judging, and subsequently the safety that I feel these spaces provide to express yourself fully and freely. It's about that warm feeling when the lights hit you; when being seen isn't so scary anymore," the artist underlines.

The track marks Eastern Margins’ eleventh release and continues to spearhead the label in bridging London’s local East and South East Asian creatives to the world.
