Los Baro’s latest EP is packed with grooves, 303s and love for his hometown
'Emmahaven' marks a maturity in the producer's sound and style
Los Baro releases his latest two-track EP ‘Emmahaven’, out now with Berlin-based Midnight Operators.
The two tracks have Los Baro’s signature style and sound in there; moody synths, pulsating percussion and excitement all around, but it marks a turning point in his musical evolution. It seems a more mature and purposeful sound than his already-decent previous discography.
Acid soundscapes are met with undeniable rhythms and grooves throughout the project, with the 303s and synths often being the highlight. The always-exciting breakdowns in the tracks only lead the way to even more of the same energy and they always hit.
The EP is a love letter to his hometown of Padang, with 'Emmahaven' being the name of a port in the city during the Dutch era. Even the title tracks are words from the Minang language, showing Los Baro’s love and appreciation of his home.
The tiger on the artwork is representative of the Minangkabau folklore figure Inyiak; a tiger spirit that bridges the gap between humans and nature.

When speaking to Mixmag Asia about the choices here, Los Baro said, “I just want to remind you of the early era of the movement. It's the same with the title of the song that I brought up. Reminds me of where I come from despite being battered by many influences at the moment. Don't forget your roots”
