Lemonfacer releases breaks-heavy masterclass EP ‘Cirrostratus’
Complete with a remix from B E N N, the EP is out now via the always-exciting Japanese label Hekdb
Taiwan-based Lemonfacer drops his latest EP titled ‘Cirrostratus’ with Japanese label Hekdb.
Over the years, Lemonfacer’s built a reputation by specialising in the fusion of ambient textures and crisp breakbeat rhythms, with this EP being a prime example of his bold blends.
The EP reinterprets breakbeats and UKG textures with a mystical flair adding depth and nuance to the mix.
The title track sets the tone with a serene, inviting soundscape that gradually builds, layer by layer, into a masterful composition of intricate breaks, resonant basslines, and carefully chopped vocals.
The balance is impeccable—each element shines in its own right while contributing to a cohesive and hypnotic whole. From the first listen, this track has been on non-stop repeat.

‘Typhoon Tune’ ventures deeper into breakbeat territory with its gut-punching percussion and intricately woven patterns. The ethereal atmosphere remains, but there's a palpable urgency that drives the track forward. The breakdowns offer brief moments of serenity before plunging back into its bass-heavy, adrenaline-charged core.
‘Assurance’ shifts gears with a more aggressive and urgent tone. The tranquil ambience of the previous tracks is stripped away, replaced by an unsettling yet gripping mood.

The EP closes with a remix of the title track by B E N N, the mastermind behind the Over My Body label.
His rendition introduces sharp acid elements and a chaotic bassline, reinterpreting the track with fresh energy. While it doesn’t stray far from the original, it doesn’t need to—its subtle tweaks elevate an already exceptional piece.
This project, given more time to digest before year's end, would have easily made our Best Music of 2024 list—and probably should have. It’s a masterclass.
