A snow-covered KAWS installation lands in China for the next chapter of Companion’s tour

Following a stop in Singapore in late 2021, KAWS returns to Asia for the eighth stop of his KAWS:HOLIDAY tour, this time touching down at Changbai Mountain in China’s Jilin Province.

Embracing the cold weather and appearing snow-covered and frosted, two giant KAWS Companion sculptures (well, one is mini, but it’s still giant) sit together amid a mountainous snowcapped landscape — perhaps huddling together to stay warm — which lends the installation that same visual splendour as previous stops in Taipei, Singapore, Hong Kong, Mount Fuji and outer-space.

“With all of the challenges people are facing around the globe, I think it’s a very important time to have public art,” KAWS says in a press release. “This location in the Changbai Mountain is such an incredible environment and it’s an honor to have the opportunity to show my work here. I hope that people take some time to come together, break their usual routine of daily life, and have a meaningful experience with the sculpture and landscape.”

The installation comes paired with a limited-edition capsule collection in partnership with Hong Kong-based creative studio AllRightsReserved including reusable hand warmers, hoodies, a limited-edition snow globe decoration and an 8.5-inch Companion figure in brown, black and snowy-white colours. The collectables drop on January 7 at 10pm ET via DDT Store with shipping scheduled to begin in March 2022.

The installation will be in display from January 6 - 16 at the Changbaishan Luneng Resort and is a collaborative effort with outdoor specialist The North Face.
