Apple drops Year of the Tiger AirPods Pros
The limited edition white buds come with a tiger-embossed case as well as a set of red envelopes
Christmas is over, 2021 is long gone, and next up is Lunar New Year and all the red aesthetics that come with it. This year, Apple is continuing what appears to be its now annual nod to the festive season with yet another AirPod drop, this time releasing a special-edition Year of the Tiger Airpods Pro.
Similar to last year’s Year of the Ox, the MagSafe charging case depicts a tiger emoji wearing a tiger hood with sparkles and fireworks in the background surrounding him. Other than that, the only other difference between this pair and the originals is the retail box has the same emoji in red on the sides.
If you’re lucky enough to get the special-edition pods, you’ll also get a set of red envelopes, each embossed with a printed zodiac icon, including a dragon, ox and snake.
The Special Edition AirPods Pro are now on sale in-store and online in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore for HK $1,999 ($249 USD). Not in Asia and feel left out? Just order the AirPods Pro with a tiger emoji embossed — they aren’t that different.
Chinese New Year begins on February 1, 2022, and is symbolized by a rotating list of zodiac creatures. 2022 is the Year of the Tiger, which is thought to be the king of all beasts in Chinese culture. If Apple continues this trend next year, 2023 will feature a rabbit design to mark the Year of the Rabbit.
