Jamie xx releases new Notting Hill Carnival-inspired track, ‘KILL DEM’

Jamie xx has released a four-minute track influenced by Notting Hill Carnival titled ‘KILL DEM’.

The new track, which marks the second release from the producer in some two years, first debuted on BBC Radio 1 and was named ‘Hottest Record In The World’ by presenter Clara Amfo.

The DJ and producer shared a clip of him playing the track at Manchester’s Warehouse Project, telling fans: “Here’s a lil bit of my new tune ‘Kill Dem’. U may have heard me playing it out over the summer. ‘Kill Dem’ is dropping this Tuesday.”

According to the producer, ‘KILL DEM’ is a homage to Notting Hill Carnival where he performed for the first time this year joining Shy FX’s iconic Digital Soundboy stage.

‘KILL DEM’ uses club rhythms and dub-inflected beats, and was first played by Jamie xx on stage at Carnival in the place that inspired it - a celebration of Caribbean and soundsystem culture.

The producer’s last release, ‘Let’s Do It Again’, marked his first in some two years. Since his acclaimed 2015 record ‘In Colour’, Jamie xx has released just a handful of solo tracks.

More recently, Jamie xx helped to produce a record for ex-bandmate, Oliver Sim of The xx, his first debut solo release in the form of ‘Hideous Bastard’.

Jamie xx is now set to go on tour around the world. Starting in the US, fans can catch the producer in Japan, Italy, Mexico, and Australia over the coming months. 7
