IYRE takes on Basement Jaxx with new remix of ‘Good Luck’
The Sri Lankan producer reworks the 2004 hit for Elevate Records
Sri Lankan producer IYRE is continuing his meteoric rise with a new high-profile release, remixing Basement Jaxx’s Grammy-nominated ‘Good Luck’.
His remix (which dropped Friday, April 12) comes shortly after multiple singles for UKF and Focuz Recordings, including ‘Never Be Alone Again’ which featured powerhouse vocals from newcomer Utelka — a production we suspect helped him snag ‘Good Luck’.
Originally something of a stylistic outlier with its rock lean and symphonic instrumentation, ’Good Luck’ was a smash when it came out in 2004, reaching #2 on Hot Dance Club Play in the States as well as becoming a silver-certified #12 single in the UK.
Twenty years on, Elevate Records is throwing two new drum’n’bass reworks of the classic into the mix (Roni Size was one of the track’s original remixers) by tapping UK-based Circadian alongside IYRE.

In his rework, IYRE flips ‘Good Luck’ into a euphoric liquid roller. Sub abounds while Lisa Kekaula’s original vocals soar and the iconic string arrangement is expertly and sparingly threaded in. In contrast, Circadian’s remix adopts a grittier and more heightened dance floor approach, creatively alternating between gnarly mid-range bass and full-blown symphonic sections.

The release is not the only recent foray into reworking Basement Jaxx’s back catalogue; November saw ‘Where’s Your Head At’ get a big room dubstep treatment by 100 gecs via XL Recordings.
