Indra7 dives into dark disco & acid breaks on new EP ‘Love Song’

Indonesian electronic music stalwart Indra7 is back with his second EP titled ‘Love Song’.

Following the success of his debut EP ‘Rubber Duck’ released in March 2023 via SALA Records, the Jakarta-based producer delivers a compact yet powerful offering of four tracks.

The EP features two distinct versions of the title track (Acid Breaks Version and Dark Disco Version) alongside remixes from SALA Records regulars Reno Renatama and Masguna.

Indra7 shares how this project stays true to his sound but also explores new ground: “There isn’t a significant departure in this EP from my previous releases. The common thread remains ‘Indra7-style electronica’. However, this time, I wanted to explore creating one original piece with two different arrangements (not remixes) within a single EP.”

‘Love Song (Acid Breaks Version)’ was originally conceived in 2022, inspired by new school breaks and infused with acid-driven elements to create sharp beats and an irresistible groove. The minimal melody and vocal play add a nice warm touch of warmth as it accompanies the syncopated rhythms and shrill acid lines.

The Dark Disco Version, completed in late 2024, takes on a moodier, more hypnotic tone, combining 4/4 rhythms and disco basslines with darker acid textures resulting in a more mysterious tone.

Reno Renatama and Masguna add their own creative spins to the track, with Renatama layering intricate rhythms and Masguna diving deep into rich textures.

Reflecting on his creative journey, he added, “As long as my hands and mind can work, I’ll keep creating. Competition motivates us to innovate—without it, we’d fade away.”
